Library Accounts and Resource AccessA library account is automatically created for students based upon their enrollment status. A valid MavCard ID is required for checking out materials. Students will use their 8-digit NU ID number for access to the library's electronic resources from off-campus. Students, faculty, and staff may request their NU ID number from the Registration and Records Office via the online form. Renew MaterialsTo renew books online, go to My Account and enter your name and your 8-digit NU ID number to access your Library account. From your account page you will choose "renew items". Two renewals are allowed if no holds or recalls have been placed on the item. Overdue items may not be renewed on-line. HoldsThose with current library accounts may place a holds only on circulating items that are checked out. Holds may be placed via My Account from the library catalog. Holds may not be placed by phone. Individuals who request holds will be notified via email when the item is returned and available for pickup at the Main Service Desk. Items will be held for one week. RecallsAll currently registered University of Nebraska faculty, students and staff may request to recall circulating items that are currently checked out. Recall requests can be made in person at the Main Service Desk or by phone. Requesters will be notified via email when the item is available for pickup. Recalled items are held for pickup at the Main Service Desk for one week. Library items not eligible to be recalled have the status of:
The current borrower will receive a recall notice with the new due date. Current borrowers will have a minimum use of 14 days for each item. Recalled items are due back in the library within five days of the new due date. Borrowers who fail to comply with recall requests are fined $5.00 plus $.40 per day if the recalled item is not returned to the library within the specified time period. SearchesIndividuals who are unable to locate items in the library may request a search. The request must be made in person at the Main Service Desk. When the requested item is found, the requester is notified via email and the item will be held for pickup at the Main Service Desk for one week. Claims ReturnedWhen a borrower believes he/she has returned an item that circulation records still show as being checked out, the borrower may file a claims returned. Library staff will search for the item in question. If the item is found, the borrower's account will be cleared of all fees and charges. If the item is not found, the borrower will be charged replacement and processing fees. A claims returned request may be initiated by phone or in person at the Main Service Desk. Special Loan PrivilegesUNO students who require extended loan privileges, such as a continuation of a thesis past the date of graduation, may fill out the Special Loan Privilege form and return it to the Main Service Desk. The form must be signed by a faculty sponsor or advisor to grant special loan privileges.
