Download SciFinder Scholar for Windows

For Windows 95/98/2000/Me/XP and NT 4.0

1. Download sfs2007.exe to a temporary directory.

2. Double-click on the file you downloaded to launch the installer.

   • Accept all defaults by choosing "SETUP," "OK," or "NEXT" during the install. This will install SciFinder Scholar to a folder named c:\sfschlr .

   • You will be asked "Do you have a disk labeled 'Custom Site Files?". Answer "NO" to this question.

3. After installation is complete, download site.prf to the installation directory (c:\sfschlr). If you are using Netscape, you may need to right-click on the link and select "Save Link As" to initiate the download.

You can now run SciFinder Scholar by going to the Start button and following the path:
Start -> Programs -> SciFinder Scholar 2007 -> SciFinder Scholar.

Download SciFinder Scholar 2007 for Macintosh OS X [10.3 - 10.4]

1. Download sfs2007a.dmg to your desktop or a download folder on your OS X drive.
2. Double-click "sfs2007a.dmg" to mount SciFinder Scholar (a Desktop Volume containing the SciFinder Scholar 2007 Application Package).
3. Open the SciFinder Scholar 2007 Desktop Volume, if it does not auto-open, and choose "as Icons" for the View.
4. Drag and drop the SciFinder Scholar 2007 Application Package (~44 MB) to your Applications folder. (The Application Package will be the SciFinder Scholar 2007 "icon" on the white button-like background in Icons view)
5. Eject (Unmount) the desktop SciFinder Scholar 2007 Volume.
6. SciFinder Scholar requires a site.prf file in order to connect to the SciFinder Scholar servers at CAS. The site.prf file for your institution may be obtained by contacting your Site Administrator for SciFinder Scholar.
   1. To add site.prf to the Application Package:
      Open the Application Package, then the Contents folder, and copy your organization's site.prf file into MacOS folder. (MacDrive:Applications:SciFinder Scholar:Contents:MacOS:site.prf)
      
      To Open the Application Package:
      1. Select the SciFinder Scholar Application Package (icon).
      2. Click the Actions button (gear with triangle).
      3. Choose Show Package Contents.
   2. If you do not have access to the SciFinder Scholar Application Package:
      Add site.prf to the User Location:
      (All users can access this location within their Home Folder, which is MacDrive:Users:[Login Name]:)
      1. Create a folder named SciFinder Scholar within :Home Folder:Library:Application Support:
      2. Copy site.prf into the SciFinder Scholar folder
         (Home Folder:Library:Application Support:SciFinder Scholar:site.prf)
      3. Note:When SciFinder Scholar is started, it will copy any site.prf file located within the Application Package into the User Location.

Download SciFinder Scholar for Macintosh [OS 7.61, 8.x, 9.x]

1. Download sfs2004hqx.
2. Double-click the SciFinder Scholar installation icon on your desktop.
3. Choose "Easy Install" and select "Install." SciFinder software will be installed to a folder named SciFinder Scholar.
4. When the installation is complete return to this page and download site.prf and move it to the SciFinder Scholar folder. To download, hold the mouse button down and select "Save as" from the pop-up menu.

You can now run SciFinder Scholar by selecting "SciFinder Scholar" from the SciFinder Scholar folder.
