Preserving the History and Culture of Afghanistan
The Arthur Paul Afghanistan Collection is the largest collection
of Afghanistan
materials in the United States, including over 12,000 titles in 24 different
languages. A principle focus of the collection is on history, with substantial holdings
in other subject areas such as literature, economics, language, music and geography.
The Collection has local, national and international reach. It is used by University of
Nebraska students and faculty as well as by scholars and authors from other national and international
institutions.
In the fall of 1974, the University
Library received Arthur Paul's private
collection of Afghanistan materials consisting of some one thousand items in Persian, Pashto
and English languages. Mr. Paul [1898-1976] served as an economic
advisor to the Royal Government of Afghanistan from 1960 to 1965.
The Center for Afghanistan Studies (CAS) provides an institutional
base for scholarly activities focusing primarily on the nation of Afghanistan. It provides the University of Nebraska
at Omaha with an added dimension of international participation and involvement. The programs of the Center are
designed to serve as catalysts for the generation of ideas and initiatives. The Center serves to facilitate interactions
among individuals in diverse fields,
scholarly and technical, related to professional work in Afghanistan.
