Dr. Del Weber

A native of Columbus, Nebraska, Dr. Del Weber served as Chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) from 1977 to 1997. Dr. Weber has an undergraduate degree from Midland College and M.Ed. & Ed.D. degrees from the University of Nebraska Lincoln.

During his years as UNO Chancellor, Dr. Weber was heavily involved in the Omaha community. He sat on the Boards of Directors of several major entities, including the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the Urban League, Omaha Community Playhouse, Norwest Bank, the Omaha Home for Boys, the Strategic Command Consultation Committee, and the Salvation Army Advisory Board. He previously has served in several capacities with the United Way of the Midlands Board, including General Campaign chairman in 1983 and President in 1984.

He has been named Man of the Year by both the Omaha Club and Merrymakers, and received the Vision Award from the Society for the Prevention of Blindness, the Service to Mankind Award from the Sertoma Club, and the outstanding citizen award from the Woodmen of the World. He was King of Ak-Sar-Ben in 1989.

After retiring from UNO, Del Weber assumed the presidency of the Omaha Community Foundation, a position he held until his retirement on July 1, 2003. Dr. Weber continues to be active in the Omaha community serving on boards, co-chairing Omaha by Design, an effort to develop urban design standards for the city, editing the historical Barker papers, and serving as chairman of the search committee to select a new music director for the Omaha Symphony.
