WORKING JOB TITLE : Webmaster

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR : Director, Library Operations

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY : Develops and maintains internal and external Web sites and applications for the library. Researches and analyzes advancements in Web site development and applicable technologies to enhance the user experience. Communicates effectively with individuals at all skill levels.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops and maintains library Web site and provides technical support for Web applications:
    • Creates and maintains library Web site pages using standardized coding and scripting.
    • Creates and applies information architecture principals for organizing content on the library Web site.
    • Implements technical writing abilities and sense of graphic design to create usable and accessible Web pages.
    • Communicates effectively with and assists individuals at all skill levels as each department has a contribution to make to the library Web site.
    • Assists in supporting in-house and commercially-developed Web applications as necessary.
    • Serves as Web site liaison to UNO's Information Technology Services (ITS).
    • Assists in supporting in-house and commercially-developed Web applications.
  2. Analysis and forecasting:
    • Researches, analyzes, and forecasts advancements in applicable technologies and public adoption, advising management on evolving Web technology standards and their use in a library environment.
  3. General Responsibilities:
    • Demonstrates skill in communicating orally and in writing, including the ability to conduct meetings and make presentations.
    • Participates in library-wide technology planning and development activities.
    • Serves on library and university committees as required.
    • Participates in cross-departmental projects within the library.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

HOURS: Full-time, permanent position. Variable schedule, including weekend and evening hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required : An undergraduate degree in computer science, management information systems, electronic data processing, or related area, and/or strong practical experience in a relevant field of Web programming and software support. Solid knowledge of techniques for developing, planning, installing, and maintaining an Internet or Intranet Web site, including but not limited to expertise in UNIX/Linux, xHTML/CSS, and Web programming (javascript, CGI, scripting, PHP). Superior customer service skills, including excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desired : Intermediate or advanced knowledge of Web programming (MySQL, Perl, Flash). Experience with multimedia hardware and software. Experience in a library and/or higher education setting.
